As we enter approach 25 years of educating Canadian youth in the use and non-use of alcohol and other health issues, we are pleased to report that the messages are having a strong impact on student perceptions, attitudes, and on their use of responsible choices.

A 2004 report shows that the percentage of fatally injured teenage drivers involving alcohol has decreased from 40% in 1992 to 26% in 2004 (Traffic Injury Research Foundation, Road Safety Monitor 2004).

In post secondary education, according to our Social Norms Research, we discovered that most Canadian post secondary students (64%) consume zero to four drinks at parties and bars.

Even though we are pleased with the trends, there is still more to be done!

• Road crashes remain the leading cause of death amongst young people in Canada.

• One in three students still believe that most of their peers frequently get intoxicated or think its okay to allow drinking to interfere with academics.
